Survivor Research

Dr. Adriana Feder’s research team at Mount Sinai is currently conducting an online therapy study for 9/11 WTC survivors who continue to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms related to the 9/11 WTC attacks. Interested WTC survivors who qualify for this online therapy study will have an equal chance of being given one of two therapies and will be assigned a personal therapist who communicates with them in writing via a secure online system.

Participants are asked to set aside a quiet time to write for 45 minutes two times every week, at a time of their choice, for about six weeks. One of the therapies focuses on coping with WTC-related experiences and the other one on coping with current life problems. Through guided writing, online therapy aims to help WTC survivors process their traumatic experiences or better manage current life problems. The study is being conducted at Mount Sinai under the direction of Dr. Adriana Feder and is funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Dr. Feder has extensive experience in the treatment of individuals with PTSD and other posttraumatic symptoms following the WTC attacks. The study is open to residents of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
