Scott Bates   |   Former Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives' Select Committee on Homeland Security (post 9/11), Author of Winning the War on Terror

Scott Bates has served in leadership roles at the local, state, national, and international levels in policy development and government for over 20 years. He served as Secretary of State for the Governor of Virginia and has extensive experience on Capitol Hill, having served as Chief of Staff and counsel to several members of Congress.

After the attacks of 9/11, Mr. Bates served as the first Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee. He was the principal author of Winning the War on Terror, which helped inform the 9/11 Commission in its deliberations and report.

 

Mr. Bates has been on the ground in every war zone where American troops have fought in this generation. He is Chairman of the CT Port Authority and Executive Director of the CT Institute for the 21st Century. Bates is a Fellow at the Pell Center for International Relations.

Senator Richard Blumenthal

Sworn in on January 5, 2011, Richard Blumenthal is serving his first term as a United States Senator from the State of CT. Senator Blumenthal served an unprecedented five terms as CT's Attorney General. From 1977 to 1981, he served as a U.S. Attorney for CT. He served in the CT House of Representatives from 1984 to 1987, and the CT State Senate from 1987 to 1990.

Prior to his position as U.S. Attorney, Senator Blumenthal served as Administrative Assistant to U.S. Senator Abraham A. Ribicoff, aide to former U.S. Senator Daniel P. Moynihan, and law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun.

 

Senator Blumenthal graduated from Harvard College (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude), and Yale Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Law Journal. From 1970 to 1976, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

 

Senator Blumenthal lives in CT with his wife, Cynthia, and their four children.

Mika Brzezinski   |   MSNBC's Morning Joe

Mika Brzezinski is the co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe and the author of three best-selling books. Her memoir All Things At Once became a New York Times best seller in January 2010. Her second book, Knowing Your Value, reached #1 on the New York Times bestseller list for business books in 2011. Her third book, Obsessed: America's Food Addiction and My Own, debuted on the bestseller list in spring of 2013.

In 2015, Ms. Brzezinski released Grow Your Value, a sequel to Knowing Your Value. Recently, Ms. Brzezinski, along with host, Joe Scarborough, was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame.

 

In 2014, Ms. Brzezinski partnered with NBCUniversal to produce Know Your Value, a nationwide effort focused on empowering women to express their worth in business and in life.

 

 

Prior to joining MSNBC, Mika was an anchor of CBS Evening News Weekend Edition and a CBS News correspondent. She reported live from Lower Manhattan during the 9/11 attacks.

Scott Bates   |   9/11 Family Member, Published VOICES of Experience: Helping Communities Heal After Traumatic Events

Mary Fetchet co-founded Voices of September 11th in 2001 following the death of her 24 year old son Brad on 9/11. Ms. Fetchet's 20 years of experience as a clinical social worker has influenced VOICES' innovative approach to creating a new paradigm in providing long-term support services.

She guided the development of programs that provide continuity of care and promote resiliency in the lives of victims' families, responders, and survivors. Ms. Fetchet is also helping communities heal after other traumatic events through the VOICES Center of Excellence for Community Resilience.

 

Ms. Fetchet testified before the 9/11 Commission and U.S. Congress on five occasions. Her work has received national recognition, including the "CT Hero" award, ABC News Person of the Year, NBC News Making a Difference, and induction into the Hall of Fame at Columbia University School of Social Work.

Guy Fortt   |   9/11 Responder, Greenwich Fire Department

Guy Fortt enjoys an ever-expanding career in the entertainment industry, having appeared on diverse shows, including Law & Order SVU, HBO's The Sopranos, and his recent recurring role on the hit ID Discovery show Shadow of Doubt, playing Detective Mosbly.

At just 22 years old, Mr. Fortt's girlfriend died in his arms. Having been through that fire, he decided to battle them and became a firefighter/EMT. He has served in the Greenwich Fire Department for more than 26 years.

 

In 2001, Mr. Fortt and several of his colleagues volunteered their time during the Search & Rescue mission in New York City at The World Trade Center. He also was instrumental in helping to raise $150,000 for the families of 9/11 victims by participating in a 350-mile bike ride from Ground Zero to the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

 

After surviving the tragic loss of his girlfriend, Mr. Fortt later met and married the love of his life, Tabitha B. Fortt. While he raised their four children, she operates her own medical practice.

John Gannon   |   Former CIA Deputy Director for Intelligence, ex-Chairman of the National Intelligence Council, and first Staff Director of the House Homeland Security Committee

John Gannon served as CIA's Director of European Analysis, Deputy Director for Intelligence, Assistant Director of Central Intelligence for Analysis and Production, and Chairman of the National Intelligence Council. After his retirement from CIA in 2001, he served in the White House as the head of the intelligence team standing up the Department of Homeland Security and later on the Hill as the staff director of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security.

In 2004, President George W. Bush awarded him the National Security Medal.

 

Mr. Gannon retired from BAE Systems as President of the Intelligence and Security Sector. In 2014, he was appointed the Executive Director of the Congressionally-directed 9/11 Review Commission of the FBI. In 2016, he was appointed to the Technical Advisory Group of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University.

Congressman Jim Himes

Jim Himes represents CT's Fourth District in the United States House of Representatives, where he is serving his fourth term. He is a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, serves as the ranking member of the NSA and Cybersecurity Subcommittee of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and is Vice-Chair of the New Democrat Coalition.

After completing his undergraduate work at Harvard University, Congressman Himes earned a Rhodes Scholarship, which enabled him to attend Oxford University in England, where he continued his studies of Latin America, including research in El Salvador.

 

Congressman Himes began his professional career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he worked his way up to Vice President over the course of a 12-year career. He lives in Greenwich with his wife, Mar,y and two daughters, Emma and Linley.

James Kreindler   |   Attorney and co-chair of the Plantiff's Committee in the 9/11 Litigation against the financiers and sponsors of al-Qaeda

James P. Kreindler joined Kreindler & Kreindler LLP, the firm started by his father and grandfather, 33 years ago. A specialist in aviation accident and terrorist litigation, Mr. Kreindler took over the lead role of the Plaintiff's Committee in the Pan Am 103 families' suit against Libya, which produced $2.7 billion in additional compensation for the families of the Lockerbie victims. Mr. Kreindler played a major role in the trial against Pan Am arising from the Flight 103 disaster over Lockerbie, Scotland.

He has headed up the victims' suit in the Buffalo Colgan crash and took a leading role in the EgyptAir 990 crash in 1990, the TWA disaster in 1996, and the Swissair 111 disaster in 1998. Mr. Kreindler is now co-chair of the Plaintiff's Committee in the 9/11 Litigation proceeding against financiers and sponsors of al-Qaeda.

Brian Lavigne

Brian Lavigne is a Financial Advisor and member of the Bermont/Carlin Group at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, servicing high net worth individuals and families, institutions, corporate entities, and not-for-profit corporations.

Mr. Lavigne has sixteen years of experience in financial services, thirteen of which have been at Morgan Stanley. On September 11th 2001, Mr. Lavigne escaped the 60th Floor of Tower Two along with approximately 2,700 Morgan Stanley colleagues. Most recently he served as an Executive Director in the Capital Markets Division of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

 

Previously, Mr. Lavigne worked as an Investment Professional in Private Wealth Management at The Ayco Company LP.

 

Mr. Lavigne received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame in Marketing and Computer Applications. He resides in New Canaan with his wife and three children.

Richard Lui   |   MSNBC

Richard Lui is a journalist and news anchor for MSNBC. In 2007, at CNN Worldwide, he became the first Asian American male to anchor a daily, national cable news show. Mr. Lui's reporting includes gender equality, politics, and terrorism - most recently, breaking field reporting at the Paris and San Bernadino attacks, and in Ferguson and Baltimore during heightened racial unrest.

Mr. Lui is a spokesperson for UN Women, ambassador for Plan International's "Because I Am A Girl" campaign and for anti-human trafficking group Not for Sale, and Board Advisor for AnnieCannons, an NGO teaching trafficking survivors to become coders. A former businessman and patent holder, Mr. Lui often addresses Fortune 500 and Silicon Valley tech firms as a thought leader in media, race, and storytelling. Robert E. Mallozzi III   |   First Selectman, New Canaan

First elected to office as a member of the Board of Selectmen in 2007, Rob Mallozzi is currently serving in his 3rd term as New Canaan's CEO and Chairman of its Board of Finance.

Mr. Mallozzi grew up in Darien, CT and, upon graduating from the University of Vermont, joined the family business as a manager of Bob's Sports, Inc. and a partner in the family's real-estate holdings, Caroline Realty, LLC. He has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, for the past 26 years and is very proud of their 2 adult children, Robert IV and Katherine Elizabeth.

 

A decorated volunteer firefighter in New Canaan, Mr. Mallozzi was named Firefighter of the Year and received the Distinguished Service Medal. His personal commitment and involvement with several New Canaan volunteer organizations helped propel him into the leadership position he currently enjoys. Mr. Mallozzi represents all Fairfield County Mayors and First Selectmen in the region's Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security committee and is the Vice Chairman of the Fairfield County Municipal Planning Organization (MPO).

Bonnie McEneaney   |   9/11 Family Member, Author of Messages: Signs, Visits and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11

Bonnie McEneaney had a long career in the financial services industry, where she was a Senior Vice President at MasterCard Worldwide. In 2006, she retired from corporate life to spend more time with her family and work on 9/11-related initiatives. Her husband, Eamon McEneaney, a Cantor-Fitzgerald Executive and a legendary member of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, was killed in the 9/11 attacks.

Ms. McEneaney is the author of the NY Times Bestseller, Messages: Signs, Visits and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11 (Harper Collins) and was an Executive Producer of a television special for the A&E network: Beyond: Messages from 9/11 that aired in 44 countries during the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Ms. McEneaney also created a volume of her husband's poetry: A Bend in the Road (Cornell University Press), which sold out its two printings. Ms. McEneaney is a past recipient of the YWCA Woman of the Year award and a board member of Voices of September 11th.

Senator Chris Murphy

Chris Murphy is the junior United States Senator from CT. He serves on the Foreign Relations Committee; the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee; and was recently named to the prestigious Appropriations Committee.

Prior to the Senate, Senator Murphy served for three terms in the U.S. House, representing the state's fifth congressional district. In Congress, Senator Murphy is acknowledged as a leading voice for stronger anti-gun violence measures, a smarter foreign policy, and reform of our nation's broken mental health system.

 

Before being elected to Congress, Senator Murphy served for eight years in the CT state legislature. Senator Murphy graduated with honors from Williams College in MA, and after receiving his law degree from the University of CT School of Law, Senator Murphy practiced real estate and banking law in Hartford. He is married to Catherine Holahan, an attorney, and they live in Cheshire with their two sons, Owen and Rider, and their cat, Ramona.

Ann Nyberg   |   WTNH

Ann Nyberg is the longest-serving, full-time female news anchor/reporter in CT television history. She is also WTNH-TV's longest-serving Anchor/Reporter in station history. In November 2015, Ms. Nyberg was inducted into the prestigious Silver Circle, an honor given by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Boston/New England Chapter to television professionals who have made significant contributions to their community and to the vitality of the television industry.

Ms. Nyberg has been voted "Best News Anchor" for a decade in CT Magazine's reader's poll and hosts her own show, "Nyberg," which has been nominated for multiple Emmy's. Ms. Nyberg's first book, Slices of Life, A Storyteller's Diary, debuted in October 2015, and her second book, Remembering Katharine Hepburn: Stories of Wit and Wisdom About America's Leading Lady, will be published in October 2016.

Joe Scarborough   |   MSNBC's Morning Joe

Former Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.) is co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe alongside Mika Brzezinski. In 2016, Mr. Scarborough, along with Ms. Brzezinski, was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame. Mr. Scarborough was named to the prestigious "Time 100" list of the world's most influential people, and Vanity Fair named him to their 2012 list of "Top Media Power Players."

Mr. Scarborough is also a two-time New York Times best-selling author. His first work, Rome Wasn't Burnt in a Day, predicted the collapse of the Republican majority and U.S. economy.
