9/11 Living Memorial | WTC Corporations

Hundreds of corporations were affected by the events of September 11, 2001. Those who survived struggled with personal loss of family, friends and colleagues as they tried to repair shattered infrastructures and keep essential services running.

VOICES of September 11th staff is meeting with World Trade Center corporations affected by 9/11 to document their inspirational stories and firsthand accounts to include in the 9/11 Living Memorial digital archive. Documenting the WTC corporations’ stories of their search for missing employees, how their business recovered, and how they memorialized their colleagues, is a crucial component of our nation's history.

Thacher Profitt is the first corporation to document their inspirational stories of recovery, rebuilding, and remembrance in the 9/11 Living Memorial, a powerful legacy to our nation's history. Thacher Proffitt, a 152 year-old law firm with 200 attorneys and a worldwide practice, occupied the 38th, 39th and 40th floors of Two World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Said former Chairman and partner Omer "Jack" Williams: “Thacher Proffitt was fortunate in that our attorneys and staff were all accounted for following the tragedy on September 11th, although many of us lost colleagues and friends in the event. Our attorneys and staff performed incredibly in our rebuilding effort. Our participation in the 9/11 Living Memorial and our collaboration with Frank and Mary Fetchet and the staff of VOICES of September 11th is an attempt to illuminate how we endured this time in our history through recovery, rebuilding and remembrance, and to commemorate these efforts.” He added, “I would encourage each company impacted by 9/11 also to consider sharing its unique story.”

Current Chairman and partner, Paul D. Tvetenstrand added, “From the earliest days of our post 9/11 recovery to the momentous occasion of our return downtown our story will hopefully provide insight and inspiration for years to come.” Press Release
