Thacher Proffitt & Wood, a law firm with 200 attorneys and a worldwide practice, occupied the 38th, 39th and 40th floors of Two World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The events of that day thankfully did not take the lives of any of the firm's staff. But the collapse of the towers took with them the tangible Thacher Proffitt - hundreds of pieces of furniture, reams of paper, computers and, with them, much of the documentation for transactions in process at the time, and left behind a staff shattered by the tragic events they witnessed.
